San Miguel de Allende, the Colonial Jewel of Mexico – there is no place like it in all of Mexico. San Miguel de Allende is truly a shopper’s paradise. Some of the things to buy are art, pottery, tile, silver, tin, and paper mache. In addition, it has a certain charm that is unique. Its narrow cobblestone streets, big haciendas, gothic style Cathedral and quaint shops bring a certain flavor that San Miguel de Allende is known for.
Day 1 – After clearing Mexican Customs, we will start our journey sought through the state of Tamaulipas, passing rich farmland and rolling hills. First stop is in San Fernando for coffee. Then it is on to Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas where we stop for lunch. After lunch, it’s back on the bus on our way to San Luis Potosi where we will spend the night at the Panorama Hotel. You will have the evening on your own.
Day 2 – After breakfast we will board the bus for a short tour of the city. Then it is on to San Miguel. Arriving in time for lunch, we will first check into the hotel. You will then have the afternoon to stroll the plaza, meet the people, get a bite to eat and enjoy the shops in the area.
Day 3 – This morning after breakfast, we will board the bus for a short drive to Guanajuato, the capital of the state of Guanajuato. Travel through subterranean passages where the river once flowed through the center of the city. Visit statues of Pipila with a panoramic view of the city. After a stop at the large market, we will travel on to the church of Valenciana, arriving back in San Miguel early evening.
Day 4 – Depart about 9:00 a.m. with a side trip to Queretaro to finish the trail of Mexico Independence. Visit the convent where Maximillian was held until his execution and see the convent of cross. Here view the only tree in the world that grows thorns in the crucifix. We’ll see Queretaro’s 250 year old aquaducts and take time to shop for opals which this region is known for before returning back to San Miguel. |
